Hot 1: WoodMac: Global Photovoltaic Installation Growth to Slow Down in 2024
Despite the total global solar installation capacity continuing to grow rapidly in the next decade, the pace of installation growth will gradually slow down in 2024 compared to recent years.
The head of Wood Mackenzie’s Global Solar Energy Department stated that if the forecast for 2023 is realized, the annual growth rate of photovoltaic installations from 2019 to 2023 will be 28%, with a 56% increase in 2023 compared to 2022. The expected growth from 2024 to 2028 will maintain the current average pace. The global solar photovoltaic market growth trend is a typical S-shaped curve. Starting from 2024, the industry will pass through a turning point, and the growth will become slower.
Wood Mackenzie forecasts that the global new solar installation capacity this year will be 270 gigawatts, while the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts the new installation capacity for this year to be 349 gigawatts.

Hot 2: Southeast Asia Holds Tremendous Potential in Photovoltaic Manufacturing, with Module Capacity Reaching 150GW by 2030!
Recently, the “ASEAN Briefing” published an article stating that Southeast Asia has the potential to become a global leader in the renewable energy manufacturing industry.
The reason is that Southeast Asia is one of the regions most susceptible to climate change. The region’s extensive coastlines and low-lying areas make it vulnerable to extreme weather and rising sea levels, affecting up to 600 million people. Therefore, Southeast Asian countries must adjust their development strategies that are increasingly exacerbating global warming, such as the region’s dependence on coal and oil as main energy sources. Without control, global warming could reduce Southeast Asia’s GDP by about 11% by the end of this century, impacting important sectors like agriculture, tourism, and healthcare.
Hence, Southeast Asia has the potential to become a global leader in renewable energy manufacturing while achieving its economic growth goals.
The report also points out that Southeast Asian countries already have a strong foundation in manufacturing. By 2030, the renewable energy manufacturing industry could bring a revenue potential of $160 billion to $200 billion to Southeast Asia. According to a report by the Asian Development Bank, about 50-60% of this revenue will be driven by low-carbon transportation and clean energy.
Specifically, in the field of solar photovoltaic manufacturing, the report states that by 2030, Southeast Asia has the potential to produce 125-150GW of photovoltaic module capacity. The region already controls 2-3% of the world’s polycrystalline silicon and wafer capacity, and 9-10% of the world’s module and cell capacity. Most of the production is concentrated in Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand.

Hot 3: China Power Construction Signs Contract for Photovoltaic Project in the Philippines
On January 1st, China Power Construction and AC Energy, a subsidiary of Ayala Corporation in the Philippines, officially signed the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract for the San Marcelino Phase III Photovoltaic Power Station project in Manila.
The San Marcelino Phase III Photovoltaic Power Station, located in San Marcelino City, Zambales Province, Philippines, is an expansion project of the San Marcelino Phase I and II projects constructed by China Power Construction, with an installation scale of 200 megawatts. The successful signing of this project marks the third collaboration between China Power Construction and Ayala Corporation. It is another significant achievement in the company’s practice of “the site as the market” strategy and driving market marketing through high-quality performance. This will continue to solidify and expand China Power Construction’s leading position as the largest new energy power contractor in the Philippines.
The San Marcelino Photovoltaic Power Station is the largest photovoltaic project in the Philippines. The already operational Phase I and II have a total installed capacity of 384 megawatts. Once Phase III is completed, the total installed capacity will reach 584 megawatts. The construction of the project will significantly alleviate the local power supply shortage, strongly support the green energy transition in the Philippines, and contribute to the country’s economic, social development, and improvement of people’s livelihoods.

Hot 4: Chile Approves Plan to Allocate Public Land for Energy Storage Projects
The Chilean government has approved a resolution to allocate public lands for energy storage projects that are set to begin operation in 2026.
The Energy Storage System Development Plan expects to allocate public lands for projects with a total capacity of 13 GWh. These projects are primarily located in four northern regions of the country: the Arica and Parinacota region, the Tarapacá region, the Antofagasta region, and the Atacama region.
Earlier this year, the National Electricity Coordinator’s “Study on Energy Storage for the National Electricity System” outlined this plan for the first time. It stated that “between 2026 and 2030, the optimal level of energy storage should be primarily located in the northern regions of the national electricity system, with capacities ranging from 1000 MW to 4000 MW and durations of 6 to 8 hours.”
The National Electricity Coordinator noted that by 2026, an initial investment of approximately $3.16 billion is expected, “with a capacity of 2000 MW or 13.2 GWh.”
